In the article, “The Big Business of Global Warming”, one of the companies that are discussed is the pharmaceutical company Bayer. According to the article, “7 Ways Climate Change Affects Companies”, companies are now spending more money for upgrades on their facilities in order to control the emissions that they give off. Many companies will be affected by this since most companies use crude oil in order to produce their products with the machinery they have. This is affecting companies all over the world. Investors are also affected by Global Warming since they have to look into the future as to how companies will react to such climate changes.

Global warming - Enterprise Earth impact

Global Warming has been a popular topic in the world for about two decades now. Everyone talks about how it is affecting us and the Earth with the crops and our food, but Global Warming is also affecting the business world.

They are benefiting from Global Warming with their allergy medication and bug spray. They are using the “warmer weather” to their advantage to make people buy their bug sprays.

They see that the weather is staying hotter for longer, thus taking the opportunity to make a profit while they can. There are many more examples discussed in the article, but the point is that there are many companies taking advantage of the opportunity Global Warming has given them.

Global warming infographic

These companies are prospering from Global Warming, many other countries are not. According to the article, “7 Ways Climate Change Affects Companies”, companies are now spending more money for upgrades on their facilities in order to control the emissions that they give off. It is nice to see that companies are taking initiative and implementing eco-friendly machinery, but for the companies themselves are not pleased in the fact that they have to spend more money for it.

A recent article on Investopedia talks about the investment risks created by it. Many companies will be affected by this since most companies use crude oil in order to produce their products with the machinery they have. These storms will affect the number of people going to these areas, this hotel, airline, cruise lines, restaurants, etc. are going to see a decrease in revenues.

Global Warming is affecting companies all over the world. Investors are also affected by Global Warming since they have to look into the future as to how companies will react to such climate changes. Global Warming is affecting us more than we even know.

We don't require Global Warming Theory to get People to Stop Polluting

Posted by & filed under Green Living.

Indeed, over the years, I’ve talked about global warming theory and how many researchers who obtain a good chunk of change from the flow of money for Global Warming study who secretly tell me, they don’t buy it, but it pays the bills. They reason that also if it isn’t actually factual (the theory that is) it really makes no difference because it will get manufactures, transportation, the nonrenewable energy sector to stop polluting, maybe reduced fewer trees, so in the end the white lie has nothing but positive benefits. Still, I believe that living a lie is silly, and if we are truly worried about pollution, let’s decrease it, not pretend and let’s take care what we call pollution also. CO2 is a trace gas in the world and only 3% actually comes from human emissions.

We don't require Global Warming Theory to get People to Stop Polluting

One thinker put it by doing this to me; “If we really want to stop pollution and if we really care about more efficiency and if we do it for the right reasons, we don’t need a Global Warming Scare to get there. For instance, we have misaligned equipment everywhere. Alignment reduces friction, heat, wear and tear which = more power. So many little things people can do, akin to putting proper inflation in tires, albeit a little more technical.”

Point well taken, and indeed, I have been impressed with the infrared devices which show misalignment of shafts, wheels, generators by seeing the heat and friction, everything from Wind Turbines to Hydro-generators to tractor alternators to small pumps on pressure washers. That one fix would save huge volumes of energy – with exponential and even logarithmic component.

If find it weird when someone with a 1970 Volvo Wagon with a Sierra Club sticker on the back says to me how to live my life and lower my carbon footprint, when their rings misbehave and the back is all oily and greasy. What hypocrisy, maybe all the Alarmists might consider their own lives, and live the talk, not propose inefficient systems without ROI, and afterwards call that a solution even when it isn’t even carbon neutral.

For instance, the steel towers for wind turbines often take 15-years to carbon offset, due to the coking coal burned (much sootier) to make the steel, plus the transmissions of the ship, train, truck and crane to deliver and install. In 15 years the motors will be shot and ready to replace, plus the energy costs more, and we have to build power cable to acquire to the wind fields. I am just tired concerning this whole charade. We should do what promote the right reasons – that is if we truly want to clean the air.

Image Credit: Google - 100% renewable resource

Google has been participated in by a variety of other big internet companies in seeking green energy for 100% renewable resource.

Elsewhere, Microsoft recently revealed its major wind energy purchase, to this day, a 237-megawatt farm to power its Wyoming data center. Apple, too, has been purchasing solar farms, and Facebook joins the process of developing a new wind-powered data center in Ireland.

A few months back, Amazon revealed its greatest renewable energy project, to this day, in the form of a 253-megawatt Texas wind farm, and later exposed prepare for five new solar farms in Virginia. Ultimately, Amazon is setting out to match its equivalents by committing to running Amazon Web Services (AWS) completely on renewable energy.

100% renewable resource

Google has claimed that it will be operating completely on solar power by 2017– including its data centers and facilities.

The internet colossus has been investing in renewable energy for a lot of years and has many clean energy campaigns active, including a wind farm in Kenya and a handful of wind farms in California, Texas, and elsewhere. In December last year, the company made its largest investment of renewable resource ever to power data centers across three countries.

” To achieve this goal we’ll be directly purchasing enough wind and solar electricity yearly to resolve every unit of electricity our operations consume, worldwide,” explained Urs Hölzle, senior vice president for technical infrastructure at Google, in a blog post. “And we’re focusing on creating new energy from renewable sources, so we only buy from projects that are funded by our purchases.”

One of the reasons Google has been enhancing its green energy spending is the falling costs of the wind and solar power. “The cost of wind and solar came down 60 percent and 80 percent, respectively, proving that renewables are increasingly becoming the lowest cost option,” kept Hölzle. “Electricity costs are one of the largest components of our operating expenses at our data centers, and having a long-term stable cost of renewable power provides protection against price swings in energy.”

Google had recently stated that it prepared to power 100 percent of its functions with clean energy but gave no fixed timescale for when it might take place.

When you choose to use solar energy you encounter a wide variety of conveniences that help you live a greener, more economical life. Here are just a few of the advantages of changing over to solar power for your house power needs.

Benefits of solar power at home - examples

Benefit 1: You minimize your electricity bills. Obviously, you won’t be able to completely live off your solar power and will have to use electricity from the grid sometimes, but you will find that your bills will be considerably cheaper because your energy will be partially generated through solar power. And with electricity bills increasing and rising all the time, it pays to be able to control a good portion of your spending. So even if you still need electricity from the grid too, you are significantly decreasing your reliance on it.

Benefit 2: Your panels are an asset. With people progressively looking for ways to save money and aid the environment, your solar panels will turn into an investment that helps to boost the value of your home. While solar panels are not low-cost to buy, when you compare prices and find the best deals through a site like you benefit from making an investment in the future. And in the future, people will be increasingly looking for homes that use sustainable energy and homes that have been adapted for better environmental quality. Your house price will rise as you constantly profit from cheaper electricity while you reside in your home.

Benefit 3: You help protect the environment. Solar power is a great way to decrease the size of your carbon footprint. Generating energy through the burning off of fossil fuels puts so much carbon dioxide into the atmosphere that you ‘d have to plant 100s of trees each year just to break even again. Solar power reduces emissions, thus lowering your carbon footprint. This is vitally important for everyone to consider, and the smallest actions taken by lots of people make a big effect on the environment. Solar power is certainly one of the most eco-friendly ways to generate electricity. By switching to solar you are changing the environment right.

Benefit 4: It’s practical and quick to install. Solar power is a silent technology and does not create interruption or noise pollution once installed. Solar panels are quick to install and when they are fitted by professionals you can have them working in just a few hours. They are also low-maintenance and you don’t need to do very much to keep them working fresh for the rest of their long lives.

Recycle of waste materials

Posted by & filed under Green Living.

When you thing about recycle of waste materials, have you ever bothered checking your daily waste disposal bags? Just to see if what all you are throwing away is actually a waste or it can be recycled in some way or the other. Most of us don’t think so or would consider that what we are throwing as waste or garbage might be reused or recycled for another use. We refuse to think out of the box answers for our waste disposal. While most of what we throw away is actually not usable, but it could be recycled and used by another person. There are many interesting ways to reuse, reduce and recycle waste that we produce on a daily basis. Asking yourself, Why is recovering important today and how can you use services of trash removal, London area and around to make it work for you and others is a great way to start the experience.

Metal recycle of waste materials

Why should you recycle?

Well, it is an important question you can ask if someone tells you to considerate. You might think you spent the cash and you can chose to do what you like what the stuff you bought. But remember and realize that earth includes limited resources and we are polluting it every day and depleting the resources through their use. We don’t realize the kind of pressure we are putting on the environment through all these activities. Whatever we make or produce has a negative effects either on the environment of the by product has to be handled with great care and disposed of correctly. In such a scenario, recycling of waste is a great way to ensure we return what we can and only eliminate what is absolutely useless to anyone.

recycle of waste materials example

How can you recycle waste, rubbish or garbage?

Well, it might come as a surprise to many that there are whole varieties of provider who can help you remove waste and sort out to get what could be recycled. There are many service providers in and around London area who can be contacted anytime throughout the day to solicit their services. They can come to your place to assist you and help you sort out the waste for you. These service providers excel at analyzing and understanding what can you be used, recycled and what will need to be disposed of. It is important to understand that it is value for your money.

These people are professional who excel at recycling waste, understanding how to categorize waste and what kind of waste should be treated how and where it can be best recycled. They have their teams working ceaseless to help recycle what still has value and can be used by individuals who really need it. Not whatever we recycle means it will go back to towns and market. It could sometimes find it way to the hands of the lesser fortunate if it still have some useful life and can be reused as it is.

If you take care of the environment, it is best to ensure you recycle and reduce the impact of your activities on nature, gradually.

Eco-Friendly Home

Posted by & filed under Green Living.

As the harmful effects being put on the earth by us is becoming more and more aware. Individuals are starting to become more responsible and are changing their lives to undo the irresponsible human tasks that are causing the harm, however, inevitable. But there are lots of ways and methods that you can use to help introduce a green environment. And one of these is to live in an Eco-friendly home. But, what are the features of a green home?

One thing you should aim for is to decrease carbon emissions. We have all heard of global warming and carbon emissions are a major cause. However, most homes aren’t Eco-friendly enough to help lower the emissions count. If this continues, a domino effect of, glacier melting, rising water levels, flooding, the disappearance of land mass and this all leads to illnesses and death. If gases keep on rising, this domino effect will surely happen. To have a green home equipped with environment-friendly features allow you to help contain gas emission to a minimum.

Characteristics of an Eco-Friendly Home

Here are some of the features in a Green Home:

  • Begin with an Eco-friendly property, a size big enough to let everybody have their own space and is enough that conservation cost is effective and efficient. Not overly excessive or so small you’re sardined together.
  • The location is important, be part of a green community with homes having Eco-friendly features. The surrounding landscape regardless of home or business has green features.
  • A green home has energy-efficient appliances (big and small).
  • A green home uses sustainable materials in its construction. Materials that come from all renewable resources and materials that are organic.
  • An Eco home comes with a passive solar system oriented to use and maximize benefits from using natural sunshine.
  • A green home is well insulated. Their walls have an inert gas layer designed to enhance warmth in the winter and keep up regular, smooth cool air in the summer.
  • Equipped with high-efficiency smoke, carbon and radon detectors, tied into the security and energy consumption monitors are Eco home features. These automated units offer the homeowners with easy management.
  • The paints being used are non-volatile and non-toxic, making a safe and healthy environment for the occupants.
  • A green home will merge drought resistant trees and plant life in their landscaping, which directly affects your water consumption.

In closing, I would like to share a tip to saving energy. Eco-Friendly homes come with a non-toxic, renewable insulation ranging 16-20 inches in their attic. If you have an older home, check your attic to find out the thickness of your insulation. Older homes were lucky to have 8 inches of insulation installed. Bring yours up to a minimum of 16 inches and it will give you a 25% savings on your energy bill. If you have a 2 story with A/C, that 10-degree difference in temperature, among the upper and lower floors will even out.

Solar Energy - The Future Is Now

Posted by & filed under Green Living.

For decades, solar energy has been touted as a different power source. Increasingly, however, solar is standing toe to toe with traditional power sources as a viable, cost-effective option for electricity.

When solar energy surges onto the scene in the 1980s, nobody was making an economic case for including it in America’s utility electric fleet. The argument in favor of solar was primarily environmental. Photovoltaic (PV) panels generate energy without carbon emissions and without the constant need for fuel. Since 1998, however, the cost of panels has fallen by about 8% every year. Now, it is reaching what is known as ‘grid parity,’ which means that the electricity produced by PV is cost-competitive on a per-kilowatt basis with electricity from natural gas or coal plants. At the point of grid parity, advocates of the technology can use both pure cost analysis and environmental benefits to make the case. Recently, the EPA released its Clean Power Plan, which is likely to specify the environmental legacy of the Obama administration. The plan calls for a nationwide 30% reduction in carbon emissions by 2030. While environmental benefits certainly were part of the motivation behind the plan, feasibility largely hinges on the affordability of renewable energy technology.

Market share - solar energy

Traditionally, electric utilities in the United States are vertically combined monopolies. Vertical integration means one company produces and delivers a product to consumers. Solar energy, however, is already breaking that vertical model up. While it doesn’t make sense for everyone to have their own coal plant, photovoltaic electricity gives every American the opportunity to produce their own power. This has come to be known as energy democratization. Today, individuals have an unprecedented level of the option. With this choice, many homeowners are crunching the numbers and realizing that an investment in their own electric production can protect them thousands over the life of the system.

The future of Solar Energy

It’s not only individuals taking advantage of declining prices on their own rooftops. Utility companies themselves have seen the writing on the wall and begun to invest in large-scale solar systems. There are now several solar power farms located throughout the United States. They are strategically constructed in areas with high solar resources, such as the Mojave Desert. The largest of these farms have a production capacity upwards of 500 megawatts.

Americans are considerably aware of the need for a clean energy future and the economic advantages of producing electricity at home. Solar energy is coming into its own as the economic and environmental choice of the future.

4 Ideas the Technological World Is Fighting Global Warming

Posted by & filed under Green Living.

Al Gore’s documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, debuted 10 years ago this year. See what is being done in the tech world to work to prevent the detrimental effects of global warming climate change.

It all kinda started off with a flip chart. Then, a slideshow, and eventually a movie. But really, it started with the industrial revolution. You might be wondering what I’m talking about by now, or you know with its recent ten year anniversary, I’m referring to Al Gore’s “Inconvenient Truth” about global warming.

And Gore was right on many of his predictions. CO2 levels ARE higher now than they have been the past 650,000 years. West Antarctica and major ice sheets in Greenland DO have the potential of melting, raising sea levels by 20 feet and causing 100 million refugees.

4 Ideas the Technological World Is Fighting Global Warming

But, what is being done? Is there a plausible man-made solution, despite the The tech world has taken a stand since Gore’s film debuted back in 2006. Here are four of the biggest ways.

Breakthrough Energy Coalition:

Last November at the climate change summit in Paris, Bill Gate‘s debuted his coalition of 28 high net worth investors, all being billionaire philanthropists. Its goal is to lower the cost of implementation of clean energy plans across the globe.

The United Nations Paris Agreement

This past Earth day, 195 countries came together under the United Nations to sign the Paris Agreement. It was the first time in history that a global pact was made in regards to global climate change. One of the main goals of the agreement is to stop the temperature from rising above two degrees Celsius what the temperature patterns were pre-industrial revolution. On the tech side of things, the agreement makes all of the participating countries responsible for making financial decisions in government consistent with climate-resilient development.

Collectively, the group has pledged a collective $100 billion a year to providing preventative climate change technology to underdeveloped countries worldwide.

Job Growth in Sustainable Clean Energy

80% of energy consumption globally comes from fossil fuels. Since 2006, renewable energy has grown to be cheaper than fossil-fuel based electricity in many parts of the world. There are now 7,260 megawatts of direct current from solar power in the U.S, 6,800 megawatts more than 10 years ago. This is largely due to the rapid expansion of clean energy companies and ventures. Today, 2.5 million people work in clean energy technology jobs across the US and are now adding new jobs to the industry at a rate of approx. 30,000 new jobs per year.

Elon Musk Innovation. Period.

While this dynamic CEO seems to be at the cusp of everything future related, one could say that his biggest contribution to climate change currently is his Tesla innovations. Today, there are more than 1 million plug-in electric cars are on the road across the world, and a lot of this can be attributed to Musk’s vow for planetary health over capital gain.

A few years back, he made the patents for his electric cars open source, making it fair game for other car companies to develop fossil-fuelless car models.

Musk’s self-driving cars also work against the detriment of global warming, because of its reduction of gas emissions.
His other ventures like the Hyperloop and SpaceX work in ways to decrease our carbon footprint.

Smart cities: the coming future of sustainable living

Posted by & filed under Green Living.

As digital technologies get more and more integrated into our way of life, these smart cities offer a peek into the near future of sustainable living.

Vincent Callebaut of Callebaut Architects has created smart towers that could be the future of glitzy city of Paris. The proposal, titled 2050 paris smart city, showcases eight different green tower typologies that integrate elements of nature and renewable energy – part of a research and development project that analyzes the role of high-rise architecture in Paris.

The project, in collaboration with Setec Batimet engineers, was carried out for Paris City Hall as part of an initiative to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 75 per cent by 2050.

smart cities

Remarkably, many of these prepared futuristic high rises will grow out of existing properties by using columns installed in chimney ducts to vertically support the new structures. Other plans make use of disused railway lines or repurpose existing structures. All eight typologies have the same goal: to make Paris a model green city. Aside from foliage, the smart buildings will use a number of other green technologies including:

  • Solar voltaic panels
  • Solar heating systems
  • Hydro-electric power
  • Water re-purification and recycling systems
  • Wind turbines and flexible photovoltaic textiles will also be used to generate energy and vertical gardens will both detoxify the air as well as provide space for the farming of vegetables hydroponically.

Smart green cities of today

SmartCity Kochi, located in the Kerala Special Economic Zone in India, is the latest in a series of business townships built by the SmartCity Group. An earlier development in Malta was awarded a Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certificate by the US Green Building Council. Due for completion by March 2015, SmartCity Kochi’s first building will be a LEED Platinum building with 85 per cent energy efficiency.

Some of the steps the developers took in order to achieve this rating include:

  • Conservation of the natural terrain and flora
  • Solar outdoor lighting
  • Rainwater harvesting
  • Environmentally responsive building

The building cover includes double-glazed windows to minimise heat transfer. Inside, natural ventilation systems and passive cooling minimise the need for air conditioning.

Perhaps the most ambitious smart city development is the Fujisawa Sustainable Smart Town (Fujisawa SST) located on the outskirts of Tokyo in Japan, aimed at bringing energy to life. Working together with Fujisawa City and 11 partner companies including Panasonic Corporation as the lead organiser, plans were unveiled to create Fujisawa SST in 2011. The city went into full-scale operation in November 2014.

Fujisawa SST architects and engineers based their design on three ‘lifestyle layers.’ The bottom layer is the infrastructure, which houses the town’s energy and information centres. The middle layer is the design of smart living spaces. The top ‘smart lifestyle’ layer focuses on the health, transportation, security, social and recreation needs of the residents.

Fujisawa SST covers around 19 hectares and has the capacity to service 1000 households with solar power and other sustainable technologies including energy storage and energy saving. Residents and visitors are encouraged to adopt mobile lifestyles through eco car sharing and rent-a-car services. As a town that promotes eco and smart lifestyles, several environmental targets were set.
